Mix makes enough for two cocktails.
Supplies
- Cocktail Shaker
- Muddler
- Fine strainer
- Rocks glasses
- Freezer ice cubes
- Large cocktail ice cubes
Ingredients
- 4 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 2 limes
- 1 jalapeño
- 1 cucumber
- 4 to 6 basil leaves
- black pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
- Slice four to six thin rounds of cucumber.
- Slice four to six inch long length-wise strips of jalapeño. Add more or less depending on your preferred spice level.
- Muddle cucumber rounds, jalapeño strips, basil leaves, and simple syrup in cocktail shaker.
- Add lime juice and tequila to cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for 60 seconds.
- Rim 1/4 of the rocks glass with freshly ground black pepper, using lime juice as the binder.
- Add large ice cube to each glass.
- Fine strain cocktail mixture evenly between the two rocks glasses, pouring over the ice cube.
- Garnish with basil leaf and cucumber round.

This recipe is adapted from one of our favorite cocktails, The New Saigon, found at Linger in Denver, Colorado. Feel free to exchange tequila for gin (like the original drink calls for) or vodka.
